The Top 20 Dog Sites Of 2009 – The Best Of The Canine Web

December 31st, 2009 by Dan

Today’s dog fancier has access to a vast sea of dog related websites to navigate on any chosen day. This year I’ve been lucky enough to discover some of the shining stars – those that provide excellent information, services, products or just an excellent view on sharing their lives with canines. I’ve taken these sites and arranged them by categories to make it easier to find what you’re looking for. Give these sites a hit; I’m sure you’ll end up bookmarking at least a few of them!

Dog Health and Training Sites:

Dog Star Daily -
Dog Star Daily is an awesome site with tons of blogs focusing on dog training and behavior! You won’t find any dominance based techniques here – the Dunbars use humane, reward based techniques that really work!

The National Canine Cancer Foundation -
Cancer will effect one out of every 3 dogs. With numbers like that, you have to support sites like The National Canine Cancer Foundation. This non-profit works by providing grants to researchers working on treatments and cures for canine Cancer. Their Canine Cancer Library holds a wealth of information.

Fun4Fido -
An in depth blog that goes into detail about clicker training. Fun4Fido is an excellent place to learn more about behavioral shaping through positive methods!

Dog Lovers Digest -
If you take your dog’s health and training seriously, head over to the Dog Lovers Digest. You’ll discover blogs written by like-minded individuals who strive to aid owners in forming the best relationships they can with their pups.

Ask Spike Online -
Got a dog question? Check out Ask Spike Online! While Spike is a dog, he’s a very smart one with lots of insight into canine psychology (sometimes he asks his mom about very difficult questions too!)

Dog Rescue/Charity Sites:

The Baltimore Humane Society -
Each year the Baltimore Humane Society finds homes for over 1000 pets. This worthy organization doesn’t only find homes for dogs and cats, they also provide community outreach and education. Check out their adoptables or consider making a donation!

Soi Dog Foundation -
There is a dire pet overpopulation problem in the region surrounding Phuket, Thailand. The Soi Dog Foundation has been working since 2003 to spay, neuter, feed and care for the animals in the area. Their website provides information about adopting these dogs in need as well as volunteer opportunities.

Coalition To Unchain Dogs -
Dogs are pack animals that need companionship. Living life on a chain can cause depression and extreme behavioral issues. Coalition to Unchain Dogs is a non-profit group dedicated to improving the lives of dogs that have been living outside on chains. They lobby for legislation, educate the community and provide free fences for dogs in need.

Dog Blogs:
