Landseer May Be World’s Tallest Dog!

October 7th, 2009 by Dan

A 7 foot-long Landseer (which is considered by some to be a black and white Newfoundland, but by others a breed of its own) named Boomer, may be the tallest dog alive. Boomer is 3 years old and is owned by Caryn Weber. When the pooch is measured at the shoulders he’s 36 inches tall. Oh, he also weighs in at 180 lbs!

Boomer enjoys drinking out of the kitchen sink and knocking things over with his formidable tail. An average male Newfoundland weighs between 130-150 lbs and stands approximately 28 inches at the shoulder.

Weber is sending Boomers stats to the Guinness World Records and will be waiting to hear back from them. Gibson, the Great Dane who stood 42.2 inches tall at the shoulders and 7 foot 1 inch when standing up, held the record previously. He died of bone cancer this past summer at the age of 6.
