Dog News: Cop Shoots Playing Pit Bull, Wounds Woman

October 8th, 2009 by Dan

A police officer in La Marque, TX is now under grand jury investigation after she wounded a woman and shot a Pit Bull that were playing with a group of people in front of the home of a family friend.

At 7:15pm on Oct 7th, the officer came around the corner from an unrelated call and heard screaming and commotion. She mistook the sounds of the 23-year-old woman playing with Sugar, the Pit Bull, to be that of a dog attacking and fired upon the dog. In the process, she not only struck the dog, but she hit the woman as well. The injured woman was flown by helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital-Texas Medical Center and is expected to be released today. Sugar was rushed to the vet by her owner and is expected to make a full recovery. The name of the 30-year-old officer has not been made public. She has been serving on the force since 2008.

Well, at least both of them will survive and although the police appear to be in the wrong, you have to feel for her.

I hope by “her” you mean the poor woman injured or the the unfortunate dog owner. In my opinion the ignorant cop deserves nothing but the loss of her badge.
