Mourning The Loss Of Gidget - “The Taco Bell Dog”

July 28th, 2009 by Dan

“¡Yo quiero Taco Bell!” - that phrase was coined by the little Chihuahua with the big attitude that starred in what seemed to be a generations worth of Taco Bell advertisements (in reality the ads only aired from 1997-2000). Though we were led to believe the dog was male, the canine actor was actually a female dog named Gidget.

Gidget The Chihuahua

Gidget suffered a massive stroke on July 21st and was humanely euthanized at the age of 15. While she was living the life of retirement, she had made guest appearances in a GEICO commercial as well as in the film Legally Blonde 2.

Gidget’s longtime trainer, Sue Chipperton, said that the little dog was not treated like many small breeds. She was expected to walk on her own and was not carried or coddled despite her celebrity status. That treatment led to her “big dog” attitude. She did however, fly in the company’s corporate jet!

Gidget - you will be missed! Thanks for the memories!
