Dog Trivia: “Three Dog Night” – What’s In A Name?

July 7th, 2009 by Dan

“Three Dog Night” may be best known as a rock band of the late 1960′s and 70′s, but did you ever wonder where this group got their name? I did a little digging and discovered the inspiration. Apparently Danny Hutton’s (vocals) girlfriend came up with the name after reading an article about indigenous Australians. The article explained that aboriginals would sleep in holes with a dingo for warmth on cold nights. If it was colder they added another dog and extremely frigid nights were called “Three Dog Nights” – hence the name of the group.
