Simple, Economical Way To Refresh Pet Bedding!

June 4th, 2009 by Dan

I’m on a Dyson frenzy today. The warm weather has caused Lucian to shed more his red coat all over the house (luckily Reef doesn’t shed much at all!). We have FURminator sessions on the fire escape, but even still, the dog beds seem to get the worst covering of hair.

There are many products available that are touted to have “hair releasing properties” or as “fabric refreshers”, but I am not willing to spray a chemical product where my dog’s sleep. So for a cheap, nontoxic way to freshen up their favorite beds, I turn to baking soda.

Simply sprinkle a liberal amount of baking soda over your dog’s bed and let it stand for 20-30 minutes. Vacuum it up and your dogs will have a fresher smelling bed! If you’d like to make a budget fabric refreshening spray – try mixing a cup of water, 2 Tablespoons of vodka (for quick drying) and a few drops (5 or so) of your favorite essential oil in a spray bottle.
