Product Review: Sharp KC-C150U Air Purifier
I’ve had a few air purifiers over the years and had been hopeful with each one that it would make some kind of significant difference in the environment of the room I placed it in. While I don’t personally suffer from animal allergies, I do have plenty of seasonal issues. What I have found in the past is that the air purifier took up room, gathered dust and did pretty much nothing noticeable. When we were contacted to review the Sharp KC-C150U, I was hesitant, but did some research into the positive features of this appliance and decided to give it a shot.
Why We Like It:
* It actually works!
The KC-C150U claims that it draws pet dander and odors through it’s 3 stage filtration system leading to cleaner, healthier air. I wouldn’t have believed it until I breathed it myself. When you sleep in a bedroom with the door closed with 2 large dogs, you notice when the air suddenly becomes cleaner smelling!

* Built In Humidity.
The purifier has a built in humidification option that is really nice in the winter or in the dry heat of the summer. It made waking up after a morning of running the heat much more comfortable and made the use of an additional humidifier unnecessary.
* Super Quiet
This unit is incredibly quiet. As I said it was used in the bedroom and did not interrupt our sleep (and I am a light sleeper).
* HEPA Filtration
The Sharp KC- C150U has a True HEPA Filter that captures 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns. It isn’t just going to work for pet dander – it’s also effective for pollen, dust, and mold. It also contains an Antimicrobial Layer for additional protection against viruses.
* Long Lasting Filters
Unlike many of the lower quality air purifiers available, the KC-C150U’s filters should be washed as per the manual in order to keep the unit in tip top condition. If you do this properly the carbon and HEPA filter should last 5 years and the humidification filter should last 2 years. This is a much better choice than those purifiers that require you to continually dispose of and purchase new filters – better for your wallet and the environment!
The only faults we could find is that the unit isn’t the most attractive thing we’ve ever seen, but hey, it’s an air purifier. It does its job and that’s more important than how it looks. Luckily, due to it’s rectangular shape, it is easily maneuvered into different areas of the room.
Many readers who suffer from allergies often ask what they can do to improve their comfort level while sharing their homes with their dogs. Besides taking measures to reduce shedding, I think that looking into an effective air purifier may allow many people to experience a bit of relief. For those of you who would like an effective way make the air you breathe cleaner and remove a bit of that doggy scent, check out the Sharp KC-C150U!

Thanks for the post. I’ve been looking for a new purifier. Do you see technology affecting purifiers in the years to come? Do you think there will be new features?

David,
As with all technology, I’m sure there will always be advances! Who really knows what the future holds….. However, I will say that the KC-C150U has proven itself to be effective in a multipet home and that is more than I can say for the others I have tried out! The built in humidifier automatically adds moisture to the air on an as needed basis, which I found to be a great feature. Plus there is the bonus that it is EnergyStar rated.

Thanks for making such a detailed blog post. I write about warm air humidifiers at http://warmairhumidifiers.net . Could you give me ideas to improve that further.
