Peru Offers The Obamas Hairless Dog

November 12th, 2008 by Dan

Claudia Galvez, the president of the Association of Friends of Hairless Dogs of Peru, sent a letter to the US embassy in Peru, offering President-Elect Obama one of Peru’s own national treasures – The Peruvian Hairless Dog. The group even has a specific dog in mind – a 4 month old puppy named Machu Picchu.

This breed is also known as The Peruvian Inca Orchid, and is considered to be an ancient breed. Its likeness appears on artifacts predating 750 A.D! You can read more about hairless breeds here.

While the Peruvian Hairless dog would be a hypoallergenic choice, I’m betting that Malia and Sasha had in mind a pooch that was a bit more cuddly. The caretakers of the hairless pooch would have to stick to a moisturizing regimen to keep the pup’s skin free of blackheads, acne and dryness. It would need a vast wardrobe to keep warm during walks in the cold D.C winters!

The Obamas have already stated that they are going to rescue a dog, so we’ll have to stay tuned and see if they stick to that plan. I’m sure offers will continue to come in of non-shedding dogs from around the globe!
