Ask The Dog Guide: French Bulldog Puppy With Floppy Ear

November 23rd, 2008 by Dan

Question:
We have a 12 week old frenchie and right now one of his ears is fully standing and the other is only half standing. Is this normal? Is there anything we can do to make the other one stand??

Answer:

Most dog breeds with naturally erect ears stick to their own schedules as far as when they decide to stand up. Some French Bulldogs have had a floppy ear (or both) until they were 4 or 5 months of age (and a few as late as 8 months!). They almost always end up bat eared as expected.

There isn’t anything you should do to hurry the process along – taping can actually cause more harm than good. Just be patient and enjoy the adorable uneven ear look while it lasts! In the extremely rare instance that the ear doesn’t go up – accept your pup as being a little different – you know he would do the same for you!
