Placid Pups – 10 Laid Back Dog Breeds

September 8th, 2008 by Dan

Not everyone has the kind of lifestyle that is conducive to owning a Border Collie or a Siberian Husky (or any of the other dogs on our List of Very Energetic Dog Breeds), so I’ve written a guide to 10 breeds that would prefer the comfort of the couch to an agility field. These dogs are either known for their calm nature while inside the house or for their minimal exercise requirements (remember, even little dogs need daily jaunts outside for stimulation and to keep them healthy). So if jogging isn’t your forte and your idea of an activity partner is a TV buddy who won’t hog the remote – check out this list of 10 Breeds for Laid Back Lifestyles!

I have a Basset Hound that is most definately laid back. He gets spunky for maybe 15 minutes, twice a day when he plays with my other two dogs, but has to nap for hours in between. Stewie is not at all boring. He has a very humorous personality, making me laugh at least several times a day. He is affectionate, loyal. great with my kids, and with his pack. We adopted him about four months ago thru Ohio Basset Rescue and I’ll never be without one in my life.
My other dog, Porky (another “petfinder” adoption) must be beagle-basset mix because he doesn’t have the typical energy of a beagle. He is a lot like Stewie. He is also a perfect family pet. He is truley the love of my life. I recommend a beagle to anyone. More than that I encourage anyone looking to get a dog to go on petfinder.com. Most of the dogs have been fostered out and you can find out ahead of time the dog’s temperment to see if it matches your needs. Not to mention, you may even get the benefits of the dog already being house broken! Puppies are cute, but the cuteness wears off really quick when they are chewing, peeing, and pooping in the house. Keep that in mind.
