Reef’s Upcoming Vet Visit

May 8th, 2008 by Dan

In just a few hours my own dog, Reef, is going to be heading to the vet. About a week ago I noticed subtle changes in her behavior that led me to make an appointment for her to be seen. Because I have worked in the Veterinary field, sometimes I wonder if I am paranoid about my own animals – but one can never be too careful. Reef’s main behavioral change was a great increase in her water consumption. This can be a sign of Renal Failure (Kidney Failure) or Diabetes. I also noticed her staring at me sometimes, as if she was trying to convey something to me. I know that sounds a bit odd, but it’s the only way to explain it.

Reef and Steph

Reef is an amazing dog- the kind of dog that even non-dog people love. She’s managed to weasel her way onto every couch and onto many many laps (quite a feat for a 45 lb Pit Bull!). Keep your fingers crossed for her today. I’ll update when I know more about her condition.

I hope she’s OK. Reef is a cutie. My dog drinks a ton of water too, but he has always been that way. He will never leave any water in his bowl.
