All About Gromit - The Spokesdog for The Kennel Club “Good Citizen Dog Scheme”

March 7th, 2008 by Dan

Gromit, of the world famous duo Wallace and Gromit, is the new spokesdog of the Kennel Club’s Good Citizen Dog Scheme - (the UK’s equivalent of the Canine Good Citizen that is found in the United States).

Yesterday, during a break in the filming of the new Wallace and Gromit adventure, A Matter of Loaf and Death, Wallace was overheard congratulating Gromit and stating that his new found responsibility was not to be sniffed at. Gromit wagged his tail and frowned questioningly at his faithful ‘Master’. Will Wallace now realize who has brains, the looks and the breeding in this partnership?

On behalf of the Kennel Club, Caroline Kisko said: “It’s very exciting for the us to have Gromit as the new face for the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme. The scheme promotes responsible dog ownership through training in which both dogs and owners take part together, and over 230,000 dogs have now passed through the program. Gromit is the ideal good citizen as anyone who has seen any of the Wallace and Gromit films knows! Gromit is the most responsible dog of all, a role model for not only dogs, but also for their owners to follow!”

Sean Clarke, Head of Marketing and Licensing at Aardman (the company that makes the Wallace and Gromit films) added: “Gromit is probably the most popular of the Aardman animated figures and we are extremely pleased to be joining forces with the Kennel Club as Gromit is the perfect fit for the Good Citizen Dog Scheme. Gromit epitomises everything the scheme stands for - well behaved, well trained dogs - and is an example for all owners and dogs to achieve”.
