Ask The Dog Guide: Decrease of Appetite in Hot Weather
Question: My dog Rowdy seems to not want to eat much. It has been very hot out, so could that be the reason? He doesn’t want dog food, he wants chicken weiners or milk and lots of water. Could there be something wrong with him? It’s not like he doesn’t eat, he just only wants some things.
Answer: It’s very common for dogs to eat less in hot weather. If he is acting normally otherwise, it’s nothing to be concerned about. However, we would recommend not giving him other foods, because he may have digestive upset from those. Also, if he becomes used to special foods, he might start to reject his food more of the time. Continue with his regular diet and feeding schedule, and monitor him to make sure there are no other signs of a health issue.
