Stuff Those Kongs!

June 27th, 2007 by Dan

You’ll often hear us talk about Kong toys; we think these rubber, tough-made toys are great ways to keep your dogs busy when you’re not at home. Here are some creative ideas (or recipes) to keep your pup’s appetite satisfied and his mind at work! We reccomend serving all stuffed Kongs in a crate or easily cleaned area, as fun can be messy!

The Minimalist:
When you need a quick fix for your dog, try smearing peanut butter or even a quick squirt of “easy cheese” on the inside of the Kong. Spread it with a knife and present it to your pooch. He won’t know that you wern’t slaving for hours.

Banana Smoothie:
1 ripe fresh banana; 2 tbs cooked oatmeal; 1 tbs plain yogurt
Mash up the banana, add the oatmeal and the yogurt. Mix all the ingredients together and use a spoon to pack into the Kong. Freeze for aproximately 4 hours.

Layer Cake:
Plug the small hole at the bottom with peanut butter and place in a bowl. Add crunch treats (or if your dog eats kibble, you can use that) to the bottom of the Kong. Next add a few slices of apple across the kibble. Top it off with 2 biscuits and another dollop of peanut butter. Pack tighter for more advanced Kong’ers, looser for puppies and dogs with shorter attention spans.

Canine Cooler:
Place the Kong in a Bowl and plug the end with peanut butter. Fill with unsalted chicken broth. Take a whole carrot, wash and cut off the end. Place the carrot so it is sticking out of the large hole. Freeze for at least 4 hours and give to your dog for a cool summer treat!
