Lucian Cools Off
A few weeks ago we brought Lucian to a large book fair in Philadelphia. We always travel with a full “puppy backpack” which contains all the goodies we need to keep him happy and occupied. Usually this consists of a big bottle of water, a blanket for him to lie on, little bags of treats, a chewy toy and one of his favorite stuffies (a duck or a moose!). We walked around for a great deal of time and he met gads of people and other dogs; it was a very valuable experience as far as puppy socialization time! After a few hours we were hot- all of us! So we decided to bring him over to the fountain and give him his first taste of being a water dog.
He enjoyed the water as long as I was in it with him. While we want him to love to swim (it’s very good exercise for giant dogs), patience is the key! If you force your dog into the water, expect him to want to avoid it in the future.
