Who Are We Anyway, and Why Should You Read Our Blog?

About your dogguide bloggers:

Hi! I’m so happy to be your “tour guide” on this journey into the wonders of dog ownership! I figured you may want to know who I am, since (hopefully) you’ll be reading a lot of what I have to say.

I knew I was an animal person from the time I was a small child. I spent many years volunteering hours at a veterinary clinic that was owned by my neighbor and had a small menagerie of pets while growing up. Later, I attended UMASS Amherst and studied Pre-Veterinary medicine.

I have worked exclusively in the animal care field for the past 7 years, and wouldn’t change any of it. I’ve been employed as a veterinary technician in a variety of clinical settings, including a non-profit humane society hospital and a board certified internal medicine practice. What I learned in the high volume humane-society setting is invaluable to the rest of my work with animals.
I’ve also devoted an immense amount of my own time to studying the topics of canine behavior and, when I have the time, enjoy working with difficult dogs in shelter environments as well as aiding owners in the training of their companion animals.

I’m owned by my 6 year old American Pit Bull Terrier, Reef, and my Dogue De Bordeaux puppy, Lucian. I also cohabitate with 3 cats and a variety of pet rats. They’ll probably show up in pictures from time to time along with the dogs, as they all have some pretty entertaining interactions with each other! Welcome to my world of animals, and happy reading.
