Why I Love Doggy Day Care

November 16th, 2006 by Micah

My wife and I recently bought a condo at the Jersey Shore. We like to go down for short weekend trips.

When we first starting going, we didn’t know what to do with our dog Lilly. Some people recommended a kennel, so we tried it out.

Boy were we upset. The kennel was disorganized and they didn’t even let us see where our dog was going to be staying. Plus, if you wanted your dog to get some “play time” you had to pay $10 for 20 minutes. How did we know that our dog was really going to be getting its play time or not?

Well, we had a terrible trip to our condo. We were worried about Lilly the whole time. And when we picked her up, our worries were confirmed. She smelled like pee and was totally shaken. Really. She just wasn’t happy. You could tell.

No more kennels for us.

But guess what? We were telling one of our friends about how we hated dog kennels and she asked us whether we had ever heard of doggy day cares? We were like no? Are they different than kennels?

She said yes. Doggy day cares are specifically designed for dogs to spend ALL DAY running around and playing with each other. In other words, from early in the morning to late at night, the dogs are doing what they love to do (it actually makes me and my wife a little jealous because we think Lilly likes her time at Doggy Day Care better than she likes her time at home!).

By the end of the day, the dogs are totally pooped (wiped out, tired;-) And the time they spend in their kennels at night is actually almost all sleep time.

We love Doggy Day Care so much that now we take Lilly there once a week, even when we aren’t going on vacation. It gives her a great chance to get all her energy out and get a full week’s worth of exercise in one day!

So be sure to see if you can find a local doggy day care. Your dog will love you for it.
